Ceremony details

The wedding ceremony will be held at the Cape Royal Amphitheater, at Cape Royal on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, at 3:30 PM on Thursday, August 22, 2019.

The Cape Royal Amphitheater is about a 1 hour  drive from the Grand Canyon Lodge.  Directions and details with regard to car pooling will be posted as they become available.

The ceremony should be done by 4:30 at the latest.  Following the ceremony there will be a champagne toast to the newlyweds.

Dinner details

We will be hosting a buffet dinner at the Grand Canyon Lodge immediately following the ceremony, and then cake at our cabin after the dinner.  You can download the menu for the buffet here.

Location details

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is a wonderous place.   The North Rim is much more remote than the South Rim, so it should not feel crowded even at this time of year.  In addition, the North Rim is over 8000' in elevation, so it should not be too hot, even in August.

There are plenty of things to do on the North Rim, including driving to various scenic lookouts or hiking in the area, as shown in this map.

The closest major airport is Las Vegas, which is about a 5 hour drive.  Phoenix is about a 6 and a half hour drive.

You might want to break up your drive with a stay along the way.  Page, Arizona, near to Horseshoe Bend and the Antelope Canyon slot canyon (shown in the picture to the left), is a little under 3 hours away.  Jacob Lake is a bit more than an hour away.  Please feel free to contact us if you want help planning an itinerary.

Lodging details

This is the trickiest part of this whole shebang, since lodging within the North Rim park is limited to one facility - the Grand Canyon Lodge.  The Lodge books up pretty early, so you should try and book it as soon as possible.  The online booking does not show all the rooms available, so please call the Lodge at 877-386-4383.

There are 4 types of rooms at the Lodge -

  • Western Cabin, which has two queen beds, a refrigerator and a porch.  The nicest of the cabins.
  • A Pioneer Cabin, which has two bedrooms with a queen in one and bunk beds in the other
  • A Frontier Cabin, which has one double and one single bed, a bathroom and is fairly rustic and
  • Motel rooms, which have a queen bed

At this point, May 4, it appears that only Frontier Cabins are available at the Lodge.  Make sure to call the Lodge for a full view of what is available.

If you are only going to stay the night of the ceremony, we have reservations for motel rooms we would be happy to share.

The Lodge is the most convenient option.  However, if it is booked up, you can try the Kaibab Inn (928-638-2389), which is about a half hour from the Lodge, or the Jacob Lake Inn (928-643-7232), which is a bit more than an hour away.  They should have availability beyond what is available at the Lodge.

There are many options for lodging in Page, Arizona, which is about 2 1/2 hours from the North Rim.

Reception details

We will be hosting a reception at our home in Phoenix on Sunday, September 1, 2019, which is the Sunday after Labor Day.  More details to follow!
